Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event filled the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
